Hawaii Ironman 2007

I'm writing to let everyone know that I am regretfully pulling out of Hawaii Ironman World Champs for 2007! Many of you would know I suffered an injury in my left calf. It occured while leading by 13 minutes at Ironman UK; forcing me to walk over half the marathon.

The injury was diagnosed as a torn Posterior Tibialis, known as a common over-use running injury. This has been a lot harder to heal than a small pull or calf tear that I though it was originally. It has left me unable to get back running for a long time, also leaving me unmotivated and very depressed.

Just two weeks ago I saw Dr Andy Pruitt who gave the injury a shot of cortisone and I have seen major improvements, but I still cannot run over 45mins without pain. With this I have decided its best to pull out of the World Ironman champs for 2007 and focus on Ironman Florida in Panama City on November the 4th, with the goal of a podium and getting my 2008 Ironman World champs qualification out of the way. Then I can focus on Ironman New Zealand in my home town of Taupo New Zealand.

I want to thank all of you for your support during this hard time. It will make me a stronger, better Athlete.
