Evergreen Lake International Triathlon, Hudson, Illinois, USA - July 21, 20073rd On The Short Course!Dear Sponsors and Friends I’ve been told that local triathletes question the sanity of anyone willingly competing in an event this late in July in central Illinois due to the typically hot, humid, and windy conditions. However, for the second year in a row, race day for the Evergreen Lake International was beautiful, sunny, and cool with light winds. This international (Olympic) distance event presented by the Bloomington-Normal Area Sports Commission and organized by the local Tri-Sharks triathlon club, attracted some 300 athletes of all levels of ability from first timers to elite athletes.
Competitors were friendly, but tenacious as the race prize money attracted numerous collegiate athletes and members from area clubs including Bloomington, Chicago, Peoria, Springfield, and St. Louis. My race was going to plan - swim fast ride hard and cruise to a victory but the young guns had other idea's and when I realized they were running faster than my Ironman legs could take me I new I was in trouble and could do nothing about it but wish I had gone harder in the swim and bike!! This is the race to do if you want PR times just check out the results below of the Top 5! In addition to being well-organized and spectator-friendly, the Evergreen Lake International race will be remembered for the warm and enthusiastic welcome I received from the local Tri-Sharks not to mention the brilliant weather.
