ESPN INTERVIEW

Speaking with Bryan Rhodes

By John Ackerman | Sep 24 2010

Every sport presents its own set of challenges for athletes. Ironman triathletes face three times as many. Our In it to Win It series takes a closer look at the sport as athletes prepare for the world championship in Kona, Hawaii, live Oct. 9 on UniversalSports.com.

At 37 years old, New Zealand's Bryan Rhodes has been a triathlete for nearly 20 years and estimates he's competed in nearly 1,000 triathlons. Of those, 45 have been Ironman races, and of those, he's won five. He's clearly among the best in the sport, but he's still searching for the elusive world title. Unfortunately, he won't have a chance to compete at the world championship this year in Kona, as he's recovering from an Achilles rupture. In the midst of his rehab, he spoke with us about his injury and his journey as a professional triathlete.
